"A cat is a lion in a jungle of small bushes."
This Indian proverb is one of my favorites. It beautifully captures how cats, despite their small size, exhibit the instincts of a much larger predator. Today’s domestic cats may no longer roam wild jungles, but their evolutionary roots as solitary hunters remain deeply ingrained.
Even well-fed housecats still have a strong hunting drive. Stalking, chasing, and pouncing - whether on toys or prey - aren’t optional pastimes; they are essential instinctual behaviors that are crucial for your cat’s physical and mental well-being. When these needs aren’t met, stress and behavior issues often arise.
Cats are also highly motivated by their need for control and security. They communicate their physical and emotional states in subtle, nuanced ways - far beyond meowing alone. Learning to recognize and respect this communication is key to truly understanding your cat.
MY MISSION
At FelineFluent, my mission is to prevent behavior issues before they arise, address problems with science-based interventions, and help guardians understand their cat’s natural behaviors and communication. My goal is for every cat to feel safe, understood, and respected in their home.
As a long-term healthcare professional, I know that prevention is key. A thoughtfully enriched environment - one that provides mental and physical stimulation, encourages species-typical behaviors, and gives cats control over their surroundings - can dramatically reduce stress and improve quality of life.
I help guardians become fluent in their cat’s language so they can recognize their cat’s needs, respond appropriately, and strengthen the bond they share with their feline companion.
